A gas stove is used to heat the dishes, by placing them on top of it. Generally, these are used to cook rice and other food items. This is used to cook as well as heat the food items. The gas stove uses different type of gases to provide flame. It can use natural gas, butane, propane, and liquefied petroleum. In 1820, the first gas stove was designed by James Sharp. Gas Range is related to gas, and gas stove. Let us discuss more about its history, and working principle.

Working of a Gas Stove

For a gas stove to work, first it should be supplied with gas; it can be any one of natural gases, or propane gas. Both these gases should be kept under pressure so as to pass through a pipe; this also gives it flame at that end. Since, the pipe is connected to cylinder, the removed gas will be replaced by new gas and pressure maintained constantly.

Air Mixture

After the gas comes out of pipe, it mixes with air for producing more powerful blue flame. In earlier times, blue flame was not really preferred, but now due to modifications made to the pipe usage in modern gas ranges, the flame is now always blue in color.

Burner Grates

The gas stove has metal burner grates to hold the pot to come in contact with blue flame. They can be developed from cast iron, as well as other materials.

Gas ranges are costlier than their electrical counterparts. With the help of gas range, one can easily control the flame and you can speed up the rate of cooking.

Safety Measures to Follow While Using a Gas Stove

Any device that utilizes natural gas is associated with some risks. So, it is better to follow safety concerns. Some general issues are mentioned below.

Gas Leaks

Gas leakage can be very dangerous. Whenever you smell gas, immediately open all windows and doors to eliminate the gas from house. Don’t use any flammable item at that time. Don’t switch on electric switches too. Avoid using any electrical devices in such cases.

Incomplete Combustion

If you don’t use the gas completely, then it becomes poisonous and toxic gas that may pose risks to life. It is very dangerous just like gas leakage. So, use the gas properly, and keep the gas stove in open air areas; do not use it in a closed room. It is better to use a carbon monoxide sensor inside the kitchen room to improve safety.

Common Problems

Some time the burner doesn’t light up easily. If you encounter this problem, check whether the cylinder contains sufficient quantity of gas or not. If there is gas, then problem might be associated with pipe or burner. Check those two components, and reconnect all of them; it should mostly solve your problem.

Sometimes, the burner won’t give light properly. This problem may be due to dirty and blocked ports. Similarly, sometimes the extracted flame is yellow in color, not blue. To solve this, you need to make adjustments to fuel-to-air ratio.
